HistoryThe IT

Activity starts on the 1st of July 1967 by founding the Electronic and Mechanized IT Center of the Railway Ministry (the order no. 261/18.07.1967);

On the 1st of April 1971 the Electronic and Mechanized IT Center becomes subordinated to the Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications under the name of Electronic IT Center and it remained like this for 19 years till 1990;

On the 20th of February 1990 the Electronic IT Center of the Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications goes under the Railway Department (order no. 1012/22.02.90);

Based on decision no. 235/29.03.91 modified by decision no. 570/21.08.91 of Romanian Government the IT and Electronic Center of the Romanian Railway Company is found.

After reorganization of the Romanian Railway Company on the 1st of October 1998 the Electronic Center becomes the CFR IT Center of the Romanian Railway Company “CFR”- SA;In 1974 based on order no.406/01.06.74 are founded 8 IT Branches under Regional HQ and 1 IT Branch of the CFR Department, which goes under CFR IT Center.

On the 1st of October 1998 the IT Branches become subordinated to “CFR”-SA.“Railway IT” SA is founded on the 1st of November 2002 as an external stock company of “CFR”-SA.

OrganizationThe main activity object of the company is making of programs, implementation of the applications for railway transport as well as providing services for the railway companies and third parties.

The company manages the IT activity from the “CFR”-SA and works with the 8 IT Branches.
It has the following compartments:
Functional: managing team, strategy, economical analysis and costs, human resources, administration;
Production: operation, hardware and software maintenance, design and implementation of applications.

At regional level are 8 IT Branches that are belonged and subordinated to the “Railway IT”-SA.
“Railway IT”-SA has its headquarters in Bucharest and in 8 regional headquarters.The company has contracts, service level agreements based on the costs approved by the Administration Board.
“Railway IT”-SA represents “CFR”-SA on IT problems in international organizations.

IRIS Project

PresentationThe IRIS Project (Integrated Railway Information System) is a component of the Romanian Railways Rehabilitation program financed by IBRD and the contract for IRIS was awarded to International Computers Limited, UK, actually Fujitsu Services, as prime contractor.IRIS ApplicationsThe main applications are:

Planning and tracking train circulation
Commercial Activity for Freight Transport Management .

Project, Electronic Tickets Sales and Seat Reservation System, is considered a key project for the railway.

The implementation of this solution has many economic and procedural advantages for clients: is cheaper than an imported solution, is already verified, it responds well to the Romanian specific needs, works perfectly for Romania and it is suitable for all passenger operators.
